Milan volleyball was disappointed with the results of last week’s Ripley County Tournament and last Thursday’s loss to Batesville but the Lady Indians responded in a big way, winning four matches to claim the Knightstown Invitational on Saturday.
The Lady Indians, who had defeated Southwestern (Hanover) 3-2 last Tuesday, dropped a 3-0 decision to Batesville two nights later at home.
Milan never lost a set on Saturday, winning all four invitational matches by 2-0 final scores. That included opening round wins against Anderson Prep Academy (25-14, 25-15) and Monroe Central (25-7, 25-21) before a semifinal victory against host Knightstown (25-18, 25-19). The black and gold capped off their day with a convincing championship match, dropping Randolph Southern in set one 25-20 before drilling the Rebels 25-15 in set two.
Autumn Rohrig’s seven kills and six aces served led Milan in the championship. Kendall Furnish had a team-high two blocks, Tryniti Reed put up 20 digs and Emma Voss aided with 12 assists.
Five kills from Kate Prifogle and four kills apiece from Rohrig and Voss were big in the opener against Anderson Prep and Josie Prifogle’s three aces, Voss’s 15 assists and Reed’s 10 digs combined with Rohrig’s nine kills in the match against Monroe Central. Milan combined for 14 kills and 11 aces in the semifinals while Furnish had two blocks, Kayleigh McIntosh smacked two of the 14 kills and Reed once again had double-digit digs with 10.
With the four wins on Saturday, Milan now sits at 10 wins for the season and brought a 10-4 record into a matchup on Monday at North Decatur. The Lady Indians are at Oldenburg Academy on Thursday.
