Milan swimmers win at L’burg Invitational

Last Saturday saw both Milan and Batesville dive into the swimming pool at Lawrenceburg, competing as part of the annual Lawrenceburg Invitational.
The Lady Indians repeated as invitational champions while Milan’s boys finished runner-up for a second-straight year. Batesville’s boys settled for a fifth place spot and the Lady Bulldogs placed second behind Milan.
Milan scored 242 points on the girls side, holding off Batesville who finished up with 227 points. Harrison (Ohio) and Southwestern (Hanover) were third and fourth at 185 points and 182 points respectively and Ross (Ohio) scored 138 points for fifth place. Lawrenceburg rounded out the standings at 81 points.
Emilee Knueven lifted the Lady Indians with a pair of individual titles in the 500 freestyle and 200 freestyle while a pair of second place finishes in the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay secured the victory. Milan relay swimmers with strong performances included Knueven, Hailey Pippin, Macey Hansen, Sydney Batten, Maggie Hudepohl, Morgan Lawrence and Molly Knecht.
Hudepohl, a senior, was runner-up in the 500 freestyle and third in the 200 freestyle while Hansen picked up a third place spot in the 50 freestyle. Sophomore Faith Marsh was a top three finisher in the 100 butterfly, Pippin placed third as part of the 100 backstroke and Batten came in fourth during the 100 breaststroke.
Isabel Raab won the 50 freestyle for Batesville and Emma Miller, Taylor Blanton, Sarah Bedel and Isabel Raab teamed up to win the 400 freestyle relay.
In boys action, Harrison defeated Milan 289-265 to win the invitational and Ross swam third with 237 points. Lawrenceburg was fourth at 136 points, Batesville scored 72 points and Shawe Memorial picked up 29 points for sixth place. Lawrenceburg scored one point and was seventh.
Dylan Thomas and Liam Horton went first and second respectively in the 200 freestyle with Thomas also getting a win in the 100 breaststroke. Parley Hartwell won the 50 freestyle and Milan’s relay teams took two of three relay events. Gabe Rigdon had a second place (100 butterfly) and third place ribbon (200 individual medley), Horton placed third in the 500 freestyle and Brad Drew was second in the 100 backstroke. JJ Mutz was the final top Indian finisher at fourth in the 200 individual medley.
Top Batesville finishers were not provided by time of print.
Batesville swam this past Tuesday night at Centerville and Milan is on the road tonight for a meet at East Central.
