Norman’s conquest ends in scoring record

Milan senior Micah Norman has now scored 1,565 points for his career and is atop the all-time scoring list at the school. He is the 11th Milan player to have scored 1000 points or more and now sits fifth on the all-time county scoring leaderboard.
Perhaps it was a night in which an overtime runner in the lane by Waldron allowed the Mohawks a 64-62 victory over host Milan but the evening belonged to a certain individual who knew he was bound to make history on Tuesday night as Micah Norman’s personal journey was made complete as he became the boys basketball program’s all-time leading scorer.
Milan fell on Waldron’s runner from Eli Stewart with two seconds left. The Mohawks (13-7) have now won four-straight games.
Waldron led at the first three stops and going into the fourth quarter held a 42-32 lead but the Indians charged back with a 20-10 run in the final eight minutes of regulation to force overtime. Milan tied the game late thanks to Norman but Waldron’s ensuing possession sealed the deal.
But let’s talk about Norman who surpassed Ryan Hixson’s 1,545 career points when he drilled his 13th point at the buzzer just prior to halftime. While the field goal proved to be a historic mark and break the program’s career scoring record that had lasted for 26 years, what added up after allowed Norman’s scoring expertise to only approach more history.
Totaling 32 points in the game which led all scorers, Norman now sits at 1,565 which moves him into fifth on the all-time scoring list in Ripley County. He trails 2025 South Ripley graduate Cole Henry by only 21 points for fourth on the list and surpassing that total would put him just behind a trio of past Indiana All-Stars in Batesville’s Colt Ryan (1,794 points), Jac-Cen-Del’s Brad Borgman (1,711 points) and Michael Menser of Batesville (1,699 points).
Norman is one of 11 Milan players in county history with 1000 points or more. Just 43 boys basketball players are on the overall list.
Aside from Norman’s night, teammate Gabe Riehle scored 25 points with 16 of those points coming in the second half which paired with Normans’ 19 points in the final two quarters and overtime. Josh Pettit added three points while Grant Langferman and Tommy Poole had one point each.
Stewart led Waldron with 19 points and Ethan Moody was right behind with 18 points. That duo combined for 23 points in the second half. Caige Sheaffer followed at nine points.
Milan (9-9) goes up against Class A No. 3 Hauser on the road Friday night and will be back at home on Saturday against Jac-Cen-Del in an Ohio River Valley Conference game.
