Raider boys win SD Invite

South Ripley’s boys cross country team along with two Milan runners won championships last Thursday as part of the South Decatur Invitational in Westport.
The Raiders and Indians were joined by Jac-Cen-Del, South Decatur, North Decatur, Southwestern (Shelby) and Columbus Christian as part of the annual event run at the Southeastern Baptist Youth Camp.
South Ripley scored 34 points to win the boys invitational title for the team’s first victory of the season. North Decatur was runner-up at 39 points and that was followed by Southwestern and Columbus Christian with 70 points and 86 points respectively. Milan, South Decatur and Jac-Cen-Del did not have at least five runners compete and did not qualify for a team score.
Milan’s Gabe Riehle was the individual invitational champion, crossing the finish line first in a time of 16:24 and he was followed by teammate Lucas Cooney in second place at 16:41. South Ripley’s Luke Bradley placed fourth in 18:40 while other coverage area runners in the Top 10 were South Ripley’s Mason Bascom in sixth at 18:54 and Milan’s Nathan Voss in seventh at 19:15. Four others ran for the Raiders as part of a 35-person field. Jordan Davis and Dillon Cloney ran back-to-back in 11th and 12th at 20:30 and 20:40 respectively, Earl Carter was 20th in 23:39 and William Plazarin finished 21st in 25:37.
Milan’s fourth and final runner was freshman Seth Thomas in 18th at 22:57. Jac-Cen-Del had two runners in the race with Jacob Ricke running 19th in a time of 23:34 and Cole Patrick placing 22nd at 25:51.
Jac-Cen-Del was the only coverage area school on the girls side to qualify for a team score, finishing runner-up with 54 points. North Decatur won with 22 points and South Decatur’s 58 points placed them third. Milan junior Elly Potts won the individual crown and did so by a little over 12 seconds. Potts hit the finish line in a time of 23:31.
South Ripley’s Elizabeth McKittrick ran runner-up to Potts in a time of 23:43 and two others from the coverage area were top five finishers. Hannah Cooney of Milan was fourth in 24:47 and Jac-Cen-Del’s Allene Peters took fifth at 25:26. Also running for the Lady Eagles was Kira White ini 12th at 28:18, Hailey Caudill in 15th at 29:27, Joselyn Buford at 25th in 37:20 and Ryla Reese at 26th in 37:26.
Potts and Cooney were the only two to run for Milan. Other South Ripley runners included Jocelyn Goddard in 22nd at 33:41, Kaiden Bradley 24th in 36:13 and Emily Campbell 28th in 39:03.
