South Ripley boys basketball ran its win streak to five games on Saturday night, using a fourth quarter run to pull away from South Decatur 75-61 in Versailles.
It is the third time in the last four seasons that the Raiders have racked up a win streak of five games or more. South Ripley has scored 70-plus points in three of those contests during this current stretch.
South Decatur (4-2) trailed 17-12 but made it a one possession ballgame for the next two quarters as the Cougars brought the margin down to 33-31 at halftime and then tied the game 51-51 at the end of the third period using a 20-18 edge. But once again South Ripley showed its ability to close out ballgames in the biggest of ways. The Raiders spent the last eight minutes on a 24-13 run to finally gain a permanent advantage.
The Raiders put seven players in the score column on Saturday night and two of those players put together monstrous performances. Junior Blaine Ward dropped 30 points to lead all scorers and classmate Cole Henry followed right behind with 28 points. South Decatur was led by Jacob Scruggs and his 26 points.
South Ripley (5-1) is home on Thursday night against Batesville in what could be a potential Ripley County Tourney Championship preview.
