Raiders run at Moores Hill
South Ripley cross country made a short trip to Moores Hill on Saturday to open its season, running in the annual Moores Hill Early Bird Invitational.
The Raiders competed but did not have enough runners in both the boys and girls races to qualify for a team score. South Ripley had only a combined four runners but the program is actively looking for more to add to the roster.
Three of those four were featured in Saturday’s boys race. Sophomore Mason Bascom placed 10th out of 51 runners in a time of 19:24.30 and senior Luke Bradley was right behind him in 11th place at 19:33. Jordan Davis crossed the finish line in 24th place in 21:38. South Ripley’s lone girl runner was senior Elizabeth McKittrick who finished 20th out of 49 runners in a time of 26:23.
South Dearborn won the girls invitational after scoring 46 points and holding off both Columbus East and Switzerland County who both finished with 58 points. Switzerland County’s Amber Detmer was the individual winner in a time of 23:05. Austin took top honors in the boys race at 34 points and one of their own was the invitational champion as Carlos Mata won in 17:17.
South Ripley is not scheduled to run again until August 29 when they face South Decatur, Milan and Jac-Cen-Del in Westport.
