Riehle runs to ORVC title

Milan’s boys cross country team was runner-up in Saturday’s ORVC Championship race. Gabe Riehle (second from left) won the individual conference crown.
A lack of roster plagued several teams on Saturday morning but with no worry in the world about who was running, Milan senior Gabe Riehle continued his local dominance, cruising to a victory at the Ohio River Valley Conference Cross Country Championship at Hanover College.
Southwestern (Hanover) served as the host school for the championship. Switzerland County was crowned the boys conference champion while the host Lady Rebels were winners on the girls side.
Riehle’s run came as no surprise and the senior won an individual ORVC crown in a time of 16:35. Teammate Lucas Cooney was runner-up at 16:52 and fellow senior Tyler Myers ran 15th in 20:10. Seth Thomas in 21st and Lennox Hazeltine in 32nd rounded out the Indians in times of 21:20 and 28:37 respectively. Milan scored 48 points for its second place finish while Switzerland County won with 33 points.
The only other two scoring teams were Rising Sun in third at 68 points and Southwestern with 76 points.
South Ripley had three runners in the Top 15, led by Carter Yelton’s sixth place finish in 19:00. Domonic Carter and Saxton Hite ran back-to-back in 12th and 13th in times of 19:42 and 19:59 respectively. Ronan Kearney rounded out the Raiders at 30:32 for 35th place.
Jac-Cen-Del’s only two runners were Tyler Miller and Joseph Burford. Miller was 29th in 25:31 and Burford finished 34th in 29:15.
Southwestern won the girls race with 22 points, just seven points shy of a perfect score. Switzerland County was second with 39 points and Rising Sun was the final complete team at 69 points. Savannah Nussbaum of the winning school was the individual conference champion in a time of 20:23.
Milan’s Hannah Cooney ran to a seventh place finish in a time of 22:46 and teammate Elly Potts was 17th in 25:46. Kami Laws took the 20th place spot in 27:51.
Jac-Cen-Del had three runners led by Julia Ricke in 24th at 30:02. Elizabeth Burford was two spots back at 32:06 and Rylee Reese was 28th in 34:36. South Ripley’s only runner was Kaiden Bradley who finished 27th in 32:02.
All three coverage area schools now look to the IHSAA Cross Country Sectional on Saturday morning which will also be held at Hanover College.
