South Ripley senior Kaiya Rinear joined others as she reached her 1000 point in the game Tuesday night where South Ripley scored 60-34 over South Decatur.
Ripley County has a new 1000 point scorer as South Ripley senior Kaiya Rinear reached the milestone on the road Tuesday night in a dominant 60-34 win for the Lady Raiders at South Decatur.
Rinear, who was just eight points shy heading into Tuesday night, becomes the 25th girls basketball in Ripley County history to achieve the milestone. Her 1000 points comes in a playing career that saw her play two years at Milan before making the move back to South Ripley for her junior season.
The game itself saw previously unbeaten South Decatur fall after starting the year on a five-game win streak. South Ripley led by just six points going into the second quarter but pulled away by double digits the rest of the way. The Lady Raiders owned a 27-16 advantage at halftime and a 20-point explosion in the third quarter sealed the deal. A 13-7 surge in the final eight minutes ended the night and the green and white have now won four games in a row.
Rinear finished her night leading all scorers with 21 points, putting her 1,013 points for her career. She not only is the fourth player in Lady Raider history to achieve 1000 points but her current point total pushes her to 23rd on the county scoring list, passing 1992 Jac-Cen-Del graduate Marcy Dickman and 2005 South Ripley graduate Julie Lipperd.
She is just 15 points away from cracking the Top 20 and 57 points away from the Top 15. Rinear also posed a threat defensively in Tuesday night’s game and in doing so notched her 100th career steal.
Claire Samples added 14 points for the Versailles crew and Aubrey Werner chipped in seven points. Sophie Lauber came off the bench for six points, Evelyn Kelly and Illana Prosser scored four points apiece and Emily Parks alongside Emily McKittrick rounded out Lady Raider scoring with two points each.
South Decatur (5-1) was led by Taylor Somers with 10 points. Lilly Murray and Riley Benge scored nine points and eight points respectively.
South Ripley (4-1) is at Lawrenceburg on Friday night and is back home on Saturday night for a county rivalry game against Batesville.
