The IU Natatorium in Indianapolis hosted South Ripley, Oldenburg Academy and Batesville as a part of the Schools with No Pools Invitational last week.
22 high school programs from around the state that do not boast their own aquatic facilities were invited to the event that was hosted this year by Brebeuf Jesuit High School.
Brebeuf swept both invitational titles, scoring 326 points on the boys side and 329.5 points in girls action. With regards to the only three Southeastern Indiana teams in attendance, Oldenburg scored 128 points to place sixth in the boys invitational and its girls program placed 17th with 14 points. South Ripley’s boys were 14th at 62 points and 16th place for the girls with 32 points. Batesville had 83 points for an 11th place boys finish and 119 points for a ninth place girls finish.
Batesville’s boys were led by Emi Lopez who totaled 27 points on his own. He was a top six finisher in the 100 freestyle and joined up with Matthew Lambert, Tyler Kuntz and Dylan Shane for a top six spot in the 200 freestyle relay. Sarah Bedel scored 21 points to pace the Lady Bulldogs, placing in the top six of the 100 breaststroke and swimming alongside Sam Adams, Emma Miller and Isabel Raab for one of the top spots in the 200 freestyle relay.
Two school records fell for South Ripley’s boys as Evan Eaglin swam 23.93 seconds in the 50 freestyle and then broke the 100 freestyle record in a time of 53.68 seconds. The 100 free allowed him to finish seventh out of 56 total swimmers taking part in that division of the meet. Also for the Raider boys, Evan Eaglin, Thomas Eaglin, Jordan Davis and Landon Saylor placed seventh in the 400 freestyle relay.
Elizabeth McKittrick was a top three individual in two separate events. The Lady Raider swimmer was third out of 100 in the 50 freestyle and then placed third out of 51 in the 100 freestyle.
