Trenton Smith has one more year of high school baseball to go and the work put in this summer on the diamond by the incoming South Ripley senior is being recognized as Smith has been selected to participate in the 2024 All Scout World Series and Blue Chip Invitational in Cincinnati.
Smith received notice of his selection from Pastime Tournaments Regional Director Jaret Starnes this month and has agreed to participate in the three-day event spanning August 9-11.
Pastime Tournaments hosts multiple summer baseball tournaments throughout the midwest which brings in over 8000 student-athletes and Smith’s play throughout the last couple of months for the Indiana Dirt Dawgs made him one of less than 50 chosen to participate in Cincinnati next month. Smith put together a batting average of .348 in 21 games which included a 2-for-3 performance in the team’s final game back on July 13. He had nine hits in the final eight days of June and complemented his play at the plate over the entire 21-game stretch with his defensive abilities in the outfield.
His summer play followed up a successful junior campaign at South Ripley this past spring where he was named to the All-Ohio River Valley Conference Team. Smith batted .277 with four doubles, 16 runs and 10 RBI while also putting together a team-high 94 putouts as part of a fielding percentage that sat at 95 percent. He has been a member of the Raider varsity program since his freshman year.
Smith is hopeful that the work put in in the past three years in addition to next month’s showcase will only aid on his path to be playing baseball at the collegiate level after graduation. He will spend much of the upcoming school year working towards that goal while also being on the lookout for an institution that provides an athletic training program.
The All Scout and Blue Chip Invitational will be held at the Reds RBI Complex and Xavier University. Players in attendance are guaranteed three games for the weekend and will also take part in an individual showcase. College coaches will be in attendance.
