Softball team recognized at Milan mtg.

They were recognized for their many accomplishments at the June 16 school board meeting.
At the June 16 meeting of the Milan School Board of Trustees the girls’ softball team was recognized for their accomplishments this season. The team went 25-10 for the year. They set several new team records, made a regional appearance, had five girls go all conference and five all sectional, according to information provided by the school. Pat Murphy, school superintendent, congratulated and thanked the team for attending the meeting and said it was a fun team to watch.
Stephanie Schwing with Milan CARES presented a check to Brielle Bently and Markeisha Lillard recognizing them as recipients of the Mental Health Matters Scholarship that was offered through the Workforce Development Grant. Both students are planning to attend college to pursue a degree in the mental health field.
The high school band was also recognized at the meeting with Supt. Murphy the band earned a gold rating at the ISSMA Concert contest.
Milan has a lot to be proud of and took a moment to recognize Gabe Riehle for qualifying for the 400M State Track Meet. He placed third in the regional race and 18th at state.
Personnel:
Under personnel the Board approved the following:
Trina Schutte as Dean of Students; Bill Mulroy as High School Custodian and Jeff Stutler as Varsity Baseball Coach.
Summer positions were approved as recommended by Supt. Murphy for Extra Curriculars, Technology and Maintenance.
In Other Business:
The Board approved changes to the student handbooks, the high school curriculum guide and athletic handbook.
The Board approved curricular materials provided by the principals. The materials are being approved for the 2025-26 school year as required.
A resolution to transfer funds from the Operations Fund to the Rainy Day Fund was approved.
Field Trips and Fundraising:
A request from Stefani Bedel for the high school band to travel to Branson, Missouri in March of 2026 for their annual band tour was approved. A request from Rich Healy for the 8th grade class to travel to Washington, D.C. in May of 2026 was approved.
A request from Alyssa Parr for the art and ag departments to conduct the 2025 Craft Fair as a fundraiser for both departments met with unanimous approval.
A request for the Milan Lions Club to use the high school parking lot and lobby restrooms for the annual 4th of July Parade was approved. A request from Alyssa Parr for the high school art and ag departments to host the Christmas Craft Fair using the middle and high school gyms, cafeteria and hallways was approved.
Supt. Murphy thanked Mike Brandes, Gretchen Berger and Michelle Carpenter for all of their work and help with the building project preparations.
Board members in attendance were Timothy Tuttle, Edward Amberger, Mike Alloway and Anne Marie Layden. Greg Lewis was absent. The Board members thanked everyone who attended the meeting and welcomed Trina Schutte to the school.
