The South Ripley Raiders bowling teams traveled to Scottsburg on Saturday, January 11 and both earned sectional championships. The girls team captured the title by 151 pins over their conference rival Scottsburg.
Entering the final round, the boys trailed Columbus North by 18 pins. They took the lead in the first game of that final and kept a 14-pin distance to join the ladies as team sectional champions.
Next, both teams travel to the Three Two Fun Bowling Center in Noblesville for the regional on January 18. In addition to competing with their team, Abby Kieffer and Ellie Waldron also qualified to bowl as individuals at the regional.
Prior to winning the sectional, South Ripley’s bowling team wrapped up their regular season on Saturday, Jan. 4.
The boys varsity team concluded the season with an impressive 14-2 conference record, although they were “served notice” in their final meet by Columbus North, who defeated the Raiders to hand them that second loss. Coach Pollard hoped his team’s struggle in their final meet would be a motivator. A week later, it appeared so, as the Raiders mounted a comeback over Columbus North for the sectional title.
Meanwhile, the girls varsity team defeated Scottsburg in their portion of the meet. The SR girls went on to defeat Scottsburg again in the sectional.
Raiders bowlers Jake Grossman, Tyler Liming, Jasmine Almaraz, and Abby Kieffer earned All-Conference honors for their regular season performances.
