Milan High School senior Dylan Thomas added his name to yet another school record and the Indians closed out the 2023 portion of the season with a split decision at Greensburg on Monday night.
The Lady Indians defeated Greensburg 74-66 but it was the Pirate boys getting the best of Milan by a 83-65 decision.
Several times turned in by both Milan teams resulted in personal-best evenings but Thomas’s school record setter was the biggest highlight. Thomas swam to a first place finish in the 500 freestyle and in doing so set the career mark for the program in the event. His time of 5:13.28 broke the previous mark set by Fernando Gomez in 2018 at 5:13.95. It would be one of two wins for him on Monday as he also won the 200 freestyle.
Milan’s girls were paced by two individual wins as Maggie Hudepohl won the 200 individual medley and Macey Hansen took first in the 500 freestyle. Hudepohl would go on to place third in the 100 freestyle and Hansen finished runner-up in the 50 freestyle. Hailey Pippin had a pair of second place spots in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke, Molly Knecht earned runner-up in the 100 breaststroke and Sydney Batton saw back-to-back third place showings in the 200 freestyle and 100 breastroke.
Parley Hartwell was runner-up in the 200 individual medley and 100 fly for the boys and JJ Mutz took second in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Liam Horton (100 fly and 100 backstroke) placed third in both events, Brad Drew went third in the 200 and 100 freestyles and Ayden Potts picked up third in the 50 freestyle.
All Milan relay teams placed as well on Monday night. The Indians do not compete again until January 4 when they host Rising Sun and Oldenburg Academy.
