Versailles native named Editor for local newspapers

Julie Pollock Elliott of Versailles was recently named Editor of the Osgood Journal and The Versailles Republican. She has been with the newspapers for three years and has a broad knowledge of the news business. She will oversee all editorial content and has a proven record of being a great writer. “We are fortunate to have a local person who has so much interest in the community,” noted Wanda English Burnett, Publisher.

Julie graduated from South Ripley and then from Indiana State University with a bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Sport Management, minoring in business administration.

After graduating from ISU, Julie relocated to Indianapolis where she gained many years of experience in the mortgage industry which included a large volume of legal work and litigated matters. After spending eight years in Indianapolis, Julie returned to Ripley County, the place she calls home.

She is currently the club manager of The Versailles American Legion where she has been involved for the past three years. She enjoys working with and listening to the veterans of Post 173 and the many stories they share. She is involved in planning events for the legion such as the upcoming Walters Family Benefit, a fish fry at the Versailles Post Home on July 18.

Julie was recently named as The American Legion Fourth Estate Award winner, which is a high state honor. Her nomination came after she was published in The Versailles Republican on March 26, 2026, with a story detailing the wide range of services offered at the local Veterans Service Office in the Courthouse Annex, while also raising awareness of issues relating to Indiana’s veteran population, and particularly those from the Ripley County area.

Ken Hylton, Ripley County Veterans Service Officer told The Versailles Republican that he found Julie’s article worthy of nomination and explained his nomination came from the St. Leon American Legion Post #464 where he is a lifelong member.

Hylton served one term as Department Commander, the statewide leader of the American Legion. He also served as one of the five National Vice Commanders of The American Legion, representing the Central Region for the 2022-2023 term. In 2023, he and the national staff were awarded the Bronze Medallion Legion of Honor for their lifetime service.

Being nominated by Hylton, who has a long list of credentials, was “a surprise and great honor,” noted Julie.

She will receive the Fourth Estate Award on stage at The American Legion Department of Indiana convention on Friday, July 10 during the general session in Indianapolis.

Julie holds herself to a high standard of raising her family, serving her community and approaching every task with a smile. Her children – Camden, 14, Emersyn, 8, and Mac, 6 – are at the center of everything she does.

Julie’s commitment to serving others was shaped by her family. Her parents, Judi Geyman and Barry Pollock, as well as her step-father, Chris Geyman. all worked as educators in the community.

Outside of work, Julie spends much of her time supporting her children at their many sporting events. She is an avid Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers fan, and Pat McAfee has always been her favorite Colts player. She is a member of the Ripley County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and can be found helping others as often as she can.
