Weiler set for NAIA Championships
An all-Indiana roster featuring a former Batesville standout is in the hunt for a collegiate title as Emma Weiler and Marian University women’s golf is headed to the NAIA Women’s Golf Championships next week.
Marian punched its ticket at the Crossroads League Championship on April 29 and 30, competing in a 72-hole event at the Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus.
Weiler, a freshman at Marian who racked up numerous honors at Batesville including state finalist and All-State selection, has had a stellar first year in the collegiate ranks. Not only has she been named a Crossroads League Golfer of the Week, but has helped the Lady Knights a No. 8 ranking in the NAIA polls. Weiler’s spring has included a slew of Top 10 finishes, which did include that national title clinching match to round in April.
At Otter Creek, Weiler finished sixth overall on the individual Crossroads leaderboard with a 15-over par score of 231 as part of 72 holes played. That score helped propel Marian to its team championship and the Lady Knights carded a 45-over 909 for the win. Indiana Wesleyan was runner-up but sat 13 strokes back.
Weiler’s teammate Sidney Parmer, a graduate of North Decatur, won the individual conference championship with a seven-over par 223 during her three rounds. Also on the roster is Madison graduate Keara Eder, who placed 11th in the event at 235. As unique as it may be to see Indiana natives make up an entire roster, perhaps even more rare is to find that the three of the program’s top golfers come from Southeastern Indiana.
Weiler, Parmer, Eder and the rest of the Lady Knights compete in the NAIA Championships beginning on May 14. The match will be held at TPC Deere Run Golf Course in Silvis, Ill.
