South Ripley and Batesville are set for the biggest races of the season as Alexa Yeomans of the Lady Raiders and the Lady Bulldog 3200 relay team have received automatic bids to the IHSAA Girls Track and Field State Finals.
Those four individuals achieved the feat at the IHSAA Girls Track and Field Regional at Shelbyville on Tuesday night.
Top three finishers in each regional event received an automatic bid to the state finals while many others await this week to see if they are under the state’s mandated cut times and distances in order to receive an at-large bid. A combination of both resulted in many competing on Tuesday night.
Alexa Yeomans made sure she became the second South Ripley hurdler to make it to the state finals in as many years. After winning the sectional a week ago, Yeomans qualified for the 100 hurdles finals and not only finished second but her time of 14.86 seconds beat last year’s school record time set by Emily Flood. Flood made it to the state meet a year ago, paving the way for Yeomans to have just as much success in the next round given her new program tops.
Joining Yeomans is the Batesville 3200 relay team. Kaylie Raver, Bayleigh Demaree, Kaylynn Bedel and Megan Allgeier placed third in a time of 9:37.26, narrowly finding themselves among automatic qualifiers. Two others from the area are in the hunt for an at-large berth. Batesville’s Ella King placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet and 5.75 inches and Addison Luers finished fifth in the 400 dash at 1:01.73.
The following are other regional finishers inside the coverage area who saw their seasons come to an end in their respective events: Batesville – Bedel, eighth, 1600 run, 5:40.42; Raver, ninth, 800 run, 2:30.71; Savannah Pohlman, Nora Wiedeman, Ella Moster and Katie Lipps, 10th, 400 relay, 51.99; M. Allgeier, 10th, 800 run, 2:30.84; P. Allgeier, 10th, high jump, 5’0; Nora Wiedeman, 11th, long jump, 15’4; Lexiyne Harris, 12th, 1600 run, 5:47.10; Harris, 12th, 3200 run, 12:51.21; M. Allgeier, Demaree, Raver and Luers, 12th 1600 relay, 4:18; Veronica King, 12th, discus, 103’6.
