Clara R. Smith

Clara R. Smith, 84, of the Hopewell community passed away at 9:10 p.m., Thursday, April 8, 2021 at her home. She was born at Forest Hill in Decatur County on November 3, 1936 the daughter of Forest and Artunis Giddings Campbell. She was married to Robert Smith on May 24, 1986 and he survives.

Other survivors include one son James (Barbara) Campbell of Indianapolis; three daughters Roxanna Collins of Osgood, Virginia (Rick) Koors of Greensburg, and Bonnie (Tim) Bolt of Holton; her daughter-in-law Connie Hauser of Versailles; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; one sister Thelma Meece of Greensburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, sons David Hilderbrand and Bobby Hauser, her son in-law Brian Scott Collins, her sister Lillian Gibson, and her brothers Clifford, Norman, and Bud Campbell.

Mrs. Smith’s working career spanned many years where she was employed at US Shoe in Osgood and also for the Karol Cook Dress Factory in Greensburg. She retired in 2002 from Bonn Aluminum in Greensburg where she worked as a group leader in final inspection. She enjoyed helping Bob on the farm as well as crocheting and was well known in the community as a great seamstress. Clara was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 12th at 12:00 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Clara’s niece Pastor Janet Hodson officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will also be on Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be given to the Hopewell Baptist Church building fund in care of the funeral home.
