Curtis Allen “Buck” Roth

Curtis Allen “Buck” Roth, 79, of Butlerville passed away at 12p.m., Saturday, September 2, 2023 at the home of his sister near Greensburg. He was born in Austin, Indiana on July 4, 1944, the son of Allen and Lois Trapp Roth. He was married to Joyce Summers and she preceded him in death.

Survivors include one son Dwayne (Holly) Roth of Milan; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; one brother Frankie (Maryetta) Roth of North Vernon; two sisters Donna (Marvin) Giddings of Greensburg and Betty Gunter of New Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters Judy Tyler and Shirley Borders.

Mr. Roth was a 1962 graduate of Holton High School. On June 20, 1964 he enlisted in the US Army, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served with Company A of the 1st US Army in Vietnam and was discharged from the Army on July 24, 1971, after two tours of duty in Vietnam. For service to his country, Allen received the Vietnam Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. In civilian life he was employed as a truck driver and later retired from Lowes Distribution Center in North Vernon where he worked as a forklift operator.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 7 at 12p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. Burial will be in the Otter Creek Cemetery at Nebraska with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will also be on Thursday beginning at 10 a.m. Memorials may be given to the Versailles American Legion in care of the funeral home.
