Eric Randall Huntington
Eric Randall Huntington, age 71, of Versailles, entered this life on October 12, 1948 the loving son of Russell George “Ping”, Sr. and Emma Elizabeth (Whisman) Huntington. Eric was born in Milan, raised in Friendship and was a 1967 graduate of South Ripley High School. After graduation Eric worked at Anchor Glass and later joined the United States Navy on April 12, 1968, completing basic training in Great Lakes Illinois and rose to the rank of Fireman Apprentice spending two years in San Diego, California and was honorably discharged on January 5, 1970 at the Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, California receiving the National Defense Service Medal.
Eric transferred to the Reserves and was discharged on April 11, 1974 at Great Lakes, Illinois. Eric met the love of his life Belinda Sue Hunt and were united in marriage on November 19, 1974, at the Dillsboro United Methodist Church sharing 45 years together until his passing. Eric retired in 2002 after working 30 years for Cummins engine company in Columbus and their sister company Holset in Madison . After retirement he enjoyed painting with Beth and Barney Adams Construction in Versailles. Eric is best known for his love of cars, notably his 1970 LS6 454 Chevelle which he restored along side his friends and family, he finished it in 1982 and loved driving it to car shows and cruises around the area. He was very proud that he drove it to Charlotte, North Carolina and was able to win Sensational 70 at the 2004 Goodguys Event. Eric enjoyed restoring classic cars, attending and racing at the drag strip, attending car shows and cruise ins, classic rock but most of all he loved spending time picking on and harassing his family and friends.
He was a member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church and Brown Township American Legion Post No 247 in Friendship. Eric’s last act of kindness was helping nearly 150 people by being an organ donor. Eric died on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at 12:25 a.m. at the Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
A LOVING FAMILY
Eric will be missed by his loving wife of 45 years, Belinda Sue Hunt Huntington of Versailles; his beloved daughters, Angela “Angie” Stowasser and her husband Brett of Sunman, Erin Williams and her husband Eric of Vevay; his adoring grandchildren, Alexa Marie Stowasser, Bowe Huntington Williams, and Otto Collis Williams; his brother, Russell George “Bud” Huntington, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Versailles; his brothers in law, Randy Hunt and his wife, Rhonda of Fort Branch, Bruce Hunt and his wife, Kim of Dillsboro; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell George “Ping” Huntington, Sr., died January 21, 2000, his mother, Emma Elizabeth (Whisman) Huntington, died May 10, 1998, his sister, Jeanette Huntington Thayer, died January 11, 2020, his father in law, Purda Hunt, died March 25, 2018, his mother in law, Hazel Hunt, died January 9, 1996, and his brother in law, Delmer W. Thayer, died April 4, 2014.
FUNERAL CEREMONY
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 19, at 7:00 p.m., by Pastor Sherman Hughes at the Bear Creek Baptist Church, 953 Friendship Road in Friendship. Interment will be private at a later date in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison.
VISITATION
Friends may visit Thursday from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Bear Creek Baptist Church, 953 Friendship Road in Friendship.
MILITARY HONORS
A final salute with military honors will be conducted on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Bear Creek Baptist Church in Friendship by Brown Township American Legion Post No. 247 in Friendship.
