Eugene (Gene) Westerman
Eugene (Gene) Louis Westerman, age 80, of Osgood, Indiana passed away on January 1, 2024 at Margaret Mary Health in Batesville. The son of Louis and Ruby (Caster) Westerman was born on July 11, 1943 at his home place in Lookout, Indiana.
The 1961 Jac-Cen-Del High School graduate received his BS from Indiana State University in 1965 and later his Masters at Mount Saint Joseph University.
He taught classes at MSJ for a time but spent most of his working career in the Jac-Cen-Del Community Schools before he retired. He was a faithful servant and member of Adams Lutheran Church. Gene married his sweetheart, Ruth Adams in 1965. They were married for over 50 years before she passed away in 2017.
Gene was a devoted husband, caring father, adoring grandfather, and thoughtful brother and uncle who cherished his family. Gene was a dedicated teacher who devoted many years to shaping young minds and was able to make difficult subjects such as Physics and Calculus easy to learn. Gene taught with patience and inspired countless students with his passion for education and astounding storytelling abilities. When Gene wasn’t with his family or teaching, he enjoyed farming and spoiling his dogs. Gene’s mathematical prowess and unwavering dedication to his family and students will be remembered fondly by those whose lives he touched.
He will be dearly missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Rodney Swinney; grandchildren, Dylan, Justin and Taylor Swinney along with his sisters, Eileen Kearschner, Janice Schwier (Andy) and Rita Simon.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ruth, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Cody Swinney and brothers-in-law, Bruce Kearschner and Randy Simon.
Visitation will be Friday, January 5, 2024, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Meyers Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at Adams Lutheran Church in Batesville on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 11:00 am. Pastor Mark Booster officiating. Burial to follow in Adams Church Cemetery.
