Evelyn Jean (Hayden) Best

Evelyn Jean (Hayden) Best, 69, of Floyd’s Knobs, peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2022.  Evelyn Jean was the second of four daughters born to Earl Jr. Hayden and Mary Jo (Myers) Lauber in Batesville and grew up in Rexville, Indiana. She was a graduate of South Ripley High School class of ‘70. Devoted wife, mother and grandmother, beloved sister and dear friend, Jean was a long time member of Northside Christian Church. Jean’s passion was her family, especially her grandchildren. She was kind and generous with her time and spent many years volunteering at her children’s and grandchildren’s schools, her church, the Floyd County deaf relay services, and the Ronald MacDonald House.

She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Paul A. Best originally of Laconia, Indiana. Jean is also survived by her daughter, Jennifer Best Graft and her son, Mark Best (Ashley), as well as 4 grandchildren, Wm. Harrison Graft, Grier Graft, Violet Best, and Magnolia Best.  Evelyn Jean is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Visitation for Jean will be held Sunday, July 17, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana 47150.  Jean’s funeral service will be Monday, July 18, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with burial to follow in St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations to be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).
