George Baurley
George W. Baurley, 82, of New Marion passed away at 9:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Greenwood Village South in Greenwood. He was born near New Marion on April 15, 1938 the son of William and Eva Gigerich Baurley. He was married to Rosalie Fischvogt on July 13, 1957 and she preceded him in death on January 21, 2012.
Survivors include three daughters Cindy (Ken) Williams of Indianapolis, Nancy Dyer of Trafalgar, and Janet (Laura Easley) Baurley of Indianapolis; two grandchildren Alex Williams and Brandi Williams both of Indianapolis; 4 great-grandchildren Mya, Blake, Aryanna, and Kynzington; three brothers Charles (Lynn) Baurley and Robert (Bernie) Baurley both of Versailles and Ray (Linda) Baurley of Milan; one sister Doris (Ed) Korte of Clarksville, and grandson-in-law Joe Lammers of Morgantown. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his sister Carol Ann Baurley, and his granddaughter Kari Lammers.
Mr. Baurley was a 1955 graduate of New Marion High School. He worked as a mechanic at H. R. Corson & Son Chevrolet in Friendship and also at McGee’s Garage in Cross Plains. George was also a farmer and was best known in the community by his work as a custodian for the South Ripley Schools. George volunteered his time as a firefighter for the New Marion Fire Department for many years and was a lifelong member of the St. Magdalene Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, October 24 at 10 a.m. at the St. John Catholic Church in Osgood. Burial was in the St. Magdalene Cemetery in North Madison. Visitation was on Friday at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rosary services. Memorials may be given to the Parkinson’s Foundation, St. Magdalene Cemetery, or the New Marion Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
