Harry Alan “Huby” Hughes, age 79, of Osgood passed away on Thursday June 18 in the comfort of his family. Harry was born on August 4, 1940 the son of the late Alvin and Vernie (Hull) in Ripley County. He grew up along with his brother and sisters in the Flat Rock area.

Harry attended Napoleon schools and was a proud Bearcat graduate of the class of 1958. Shortly after graduation Harry entered the United States Navy. He proudly served our country for the next 3 years and worked his way to E-5 rank. He returned home after the service and met Wanda Lou Fuqua; they were united in marriage on December 21, 1962.

He began working for Cummins in March of 1962, retiring in 1994. Harry enjoyed the retired life, whether doing woodworking or construction, he kept busy. He spent time helping his brother Harold with various projects. He was known in the local community as the Mayor of Lock Springs.  He was an avid Indiana University basketball fan.

Harry was a lifetime member of Union Flat Rock Baptist Church, serving as a trustee. He was a proud member of the National Rifle Association.

Harry is survived by daughter Kristen (Mike Sieverding) Hughes; brother Harold (Janet) Hughes; sisters Mollie Toops and Opal Labolt. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Wanda and brother-in-laws Donald Toops and Warren Labolt.

Visitation was held on Monday June 22 from 4-7 p.m. at Neals Funeral Home in Osgood. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 23, 2020 at 10 a.m. with doors opening at 9 a.m., also at Neals Funeral Home.  Memorials may be given to Union Flat Rock Baptist Church or Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana in care of the funeral home.
