Hazel Esther Steuri
Hazel Esther (Gunter) Steuri, age 100, passed away, early December 26, 2019 at Morning Breeze in Greensburg. Hazel was born on April 6, 1919 the daughter of William and Esther (Abplanap) in Napoleon.
Hazel was the last surviving member of the Napoleon Bearcat Class of 1937. After graduation, she attended Lain Business College of Indianapolis. She went to work for the Osgood Milk Company, then onto a correspondent writer for the Ripley Publishing Company, contributing articles to the several local papers.
On July 27, 1947, Hazel married John Steuri, they would spend the rest of their lives together, until John’s passing on April 23, 2007. Hazel was a lifelong member of the St John’s Lutheran Church in Napoleon, member of Live & Learn Home Economics Club, Central House of Napoleon, VFW Ladies Auxiliary 5584 of Greensburg, St. John’s Lutheran Women of ELCA, and a former Sunday School teacher.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, and brother Clarence Gunter. She is survived by sons John (Judy) Steuri, James (Mary) Steuri, and Jason Steuri all of Osgood, daughter Janice Steuri of Greenwood, 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. V
Funeral services were held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Napoleon. Memorials maybe given to the church fund in care of Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood. www.nealsfuneralhome.net
