John Moody

John Donald Moody, age 88 of Batesville, Indiana passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2023 at Margaret Mary Health in Batesville. The son of John Oliver and Verna Mae (Bushman) Moody, was born on September 16, 1935 in Batesville.

John had a very strong work ethic and began working in eighth grade at Currin’s Bottling Company. He continued working at Currin’s until age 28. During this time, he also attended and graduated from University of Cincinnati. He worked at Batesville Casket Company for 35 years as an inventory coordinator.

He was an active member of St. John’s United Church of Christ (Huntersville). He was a former church council member, council secretary and was part of the breakfast club too, he served on the Sunday school board, was a class teacher, and took communion to shut-ins. John was a member of the Batesville Lodge F&AM Lodge #668 where he served as past master and treasurer for 37 years

John cherished the love of his life–Connie. They both loved the life they made together for 48 wonderful years.

John was happiest spending time outdoors and observing nature. There are many fond memories of spending time as a family at local and national parks throughout the US. Time spent at Yellowstone National Park was a particular favorite. After retiring from Batesville Casket Company, John and Connie were frequent travelers. Their travels included many tours around the country and several cruises including Transatlantic. He often reminisced about the beautiful places they saw and time spent together.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Connie Moody, daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa & Dan Honkomp and Traci & Mason Graham his sister and brother-in-law, Elenora & John Warren along with his nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Warren Moody.

John will be remembered as a kind and caring man and deeply missed by those who knew him well.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 4-7 pm at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville with a Masonic service at 6:30 pm. Funeral Services are at 11:00 am on Friday, January 5, 2024, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Batesville. Rev. Joey Feldmann officiating. Burial to follow in the St. John UCC Church Cemetery.
