Lola Mitchell

Lola Mitchell, 90, of Versailles passed away at 3:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born near Ligon in Floyd County, Kentucky on December 29, 1930 the daughter of Robert and Minnie Belle Henson Newsome. She was married to Howard Mitchell on September 19, 1951 and he preceded her in death on September 5, 2005.


Survivors include two daughters Donetta (Jim) Benham of Benham, and Melissa (Kurt) Dunagan of Bright; son-in-law Gene Sharp of Milan; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Angela Sharp, her sisters Virginia Meade, Earlene Mathews, Annabelle Reed, and Lou Horn, and her brother Town Newsome.


Mrs. Mitchell was a 1947 graduate of McDowell High School in McDowell, Kentucky. She was a former employee of Cuzzin Jacks in Versailles. Lola was a member of the Versailles American Legion Auxiliary and was baptized a year ago and became a member of the Shelby Christian Church. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 24th at 10:00 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Tim Heim officiating. Burial will be in the Benham Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Benham Cemetery or the Shelby Christian Church building fund in care of the funeral home.
