Mable Horton
Mable Anna Whalbring Comer Horton, age 91, of Smithville, Tennessee (formerly of Osgood) passed away on Friday March 22, 2024. She was born in Osgood on August 12, 1932, the daughter of August and Gladys Whalbring.
She is a graduate of Osgood High School Class of 1950. She raised her family in the Osgood and Versailles community. During her life, she lived in multiple states like Indiana, Ohio, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. Mable loved worshiping God. Her faith carried her through many hard times especially being a cancer survivor and in later years when her health was failing. She leaned on the Lord as he watched over her and gave her the needed strength for each day.
Mable enjoyed watching sports such as basketball and baseball, playing games, listening to gospel music, gardening, canning, and being with her family. In her younger days, she played basketball and kickball. She was a homemaker (seven children) for many years but held other jobs such as school bus driver, cook, shoe factory worker and clerk/cashier in a convenience store.
Mable is survived by one sister, Sue (Nelson) Santa Ana and sons Milton (Lucy Bell) and Bret (Kletis Brown), daughters; Barbara (Preston) Barlow, Tanya (Rev. Theron) Smith, Gwen (Steve) Williams, Inga Guenther and Greta (Bill) Goble, 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents August and Gladys Whalbring and one brother Harry Whalbring and one sister Ruth Thie.
A private family ceremony will be held on Tuesday March 26, 2024 from 10 am.-11 am. at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood, with funeral services being held at 11 am. Burial will follow at Greendale Cemetery in Osgood. Online condolences may be placed at Nealsfuneralhome.net
