Marcia Charlene Holcomb, 70, of Versailles, IN passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at her home. She was born on February 24, 1954, to Lee & Wanda (Rose) Phillips in Milan, Indiana. Marcia is a 1972 graduate of South Ripley High School, and she continued her higher education at Ball State University graduating in 1977 with a Dual Major Elementary/Special Education-Mild Disabilities and she received her Masters Degree in Special Education K-12 from Indiana University. Marcia completed her student teaching at Muscatatuck. She went on to teach special education at the Madison Area Educational Special Services Unit from 1975 to 2004. Marcia spent the next several years teaching through the Jennings County Community Schools where she retired in 2014. After a few months of retirement Marcia decided to continue to help students and became a teaching assistant with Milan Elementary School until 2020. In her time away from teaching she spent many years working in the concession at Florence Speedway.

Marcia was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, Versailles Fire Ladies Auxiliary, The Eastern Star, Dabney Baptist Church and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.

On July 19,1980 Marcia married the love of her life Dennis “Pete” Holcomb. The two welcomed their first son, Derick in June 1982 and later welcomed Dane in December 1987. Marcia loved her family more than anything in the world. She enjoyed taking family vacations. She and Pete purchased the family a timeshare with Westgate Resorts where then have spent nearly the last 30 years making many family vacation memories. Marcia loved every minute she was able to spend with her family. Whether it be fun at the racetrack, crafting things such as special Halloween costumes & special holiday items for her grandchildren, to watching so many sporting events, the list is never-ending. Marcia loved her salon days, boating, making beautiful flower arrangements, and traveling. While on a Disney Cruise in October 2023, Marcia started feeling very ill, upon returning she went to the hospital where she was later diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Marcia fought a long and hard battle.

Marcia is survived by her loving husband, Pete Holcomb of Versailles, IN, 2 sons, Derick (Misty) Holcomb, of Lawrenceburg, IN, Dane (Kayla) Holcomb of Georgetown, KY, mother, Wanda Phillips, sisters, Bennilee (Russell) Hornsby, Sandra (Lynn) Works, Mother-in-Law, Alta Holcomb, Sister-in-Law, Denise (Wendell) Tewmey. Grandchildren, Dylan, Jaycen, & Kamryn Holcomb of Batesville, IN, Kinsley Holcomb of Lawrenceburg, IN, Bailey, Dane Jr, Logan & Rylee Holcomb of Georgetown, KY and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Marcia is preceded in death by her father, Lee Phillips, father-in-law, Dennis “Pete” Holcomb, niece, Clarissa Westermeier. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 5 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Sherman Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the Marble Corner Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation was held on Monday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern Star services and Versailles American Legion Auxiliary services were held beginning at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Marble Corner Cemetery or the Legion Auxiliary in care of the funeral home.
