Let Us Pause To Honor the Memory of
Mrs. Martha Jean Hall Stearns, age 82, of Versailles, Indiana formerly of Madison and North Vernon entered this life on June 28, 1940 in Madison, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late Robert Lee and Mildred L. Spry Hall. She was raised in Madison and in the First Baptist Church. Martha attended Madison High School in downtown Madison. She worked while in high school for the Blackard Sandwich Shop in downtown Madison. She was united in marriage to Larry Joe Stearns and this happy union was blessed with four sons, William Joseph, Robert, Matthew, and Mark. She worked early in life at the U.S. Shoe Corporation in downtown Madison and at the Osgood plant as well. She also operated a shoe outlet in downtown Madison for several years. Her husband owned and operated Columbus Motor Sports in Columbus, Indiana for many years and she served as the bookkeeper. Martha and Larry made their home in North Vernon for ten years and later in Versailles. She enjoyed raising flowers, watching the hummingbirds, listening to country music, and watching movies. Martha died on Friday, January 27, 2023, at 2:54 a.m. at the Margaret Mary Hospital Community Hospital in Batesville, Indiana.
A LOVING FAMILY
Martha will be missed by her loving husband, Larry J. Stearns of Versailles, Indiana; her loving sons, William “Bill” Stearns of Versailles, Indiana, Robert “Bobby” Stearns and his wife, Lisa of Versailles, Indiana, Matthew Stearns and his wife, Karen of North Vernon, Indiana, Mark A. Stearns of Versailles, Indiana; her grandchildren, William II, Chris, Kevin, Jackie, and Tyler; her great grandchildren, Joanna, Taylor, Braydon, Christlyn, Zach, and Seth; her brother, Anthony R. “Tony” Hall and his wife, Cheryl of Madison, Indiana; her sister in law, Sandra Stillwell and her husband, Fred of Lexington, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lee Hall, died February 20, 1978, her mother, Mildred L. Spry Hall, died August 31, 2012, her sisters, Patty L. Poynter, died January 19, 2012 and her husband, Charles “Ox” Poynter, died, August 30, 2011, Mary Ellen Turner, died March 26, 2020, and her grandson, Chandler Matthew Stearns, died October 8, 2015.
FUNERAL CEREMONY
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens,9306 North US 421 near Madison, Indiana.
VISITATION
Friends may visit Monday from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the time of service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
