Mary Maxine (Max) Roberts

Mary Maxine (Max) Roberts

Mary Maxine (Max) Roberts died Monday, May 11. 2020 at the age of 96 of natural causes related to old age.

She was the youngest of three sisters, proceeded in death by Berta Fay Roberts Gleason and Vera May Roberts Orndorff. She will be buried with her parents Lora (Grow) and Charles Roberts in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Napoleon.

Max was born in Napoleon and graduated from Napoleon High School. After her mother died in 1945 she moved to California to join her sister Vera, whose husband was stationed at Alameda. As an independent and self confident woman, she stayed in Oakland and the East Bay area for the rest of her life. She liked to say that her profession was as a “stripper,” a Lithographic Stripper in the printing industry. She was a member of the Graphic Communication International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

She is survived by five nieces and nephews, Brad, Sarah, Vicki, Lori and Kevin; and her biological daughter Lisa.

She will be remembered as a feisty and spirited woman and a loving aunt who was elegant, stylish and cosmopolitan; in many ways our “Auntie Mame.”

Exact dates for funeral and memorial services are still being planned.
