Patricia O. (Pat) Lemon

Patricia O. (Pat) Lemon left this life in Batesville, In. on January 23,2022, at the age of 91. She was born in Indianapolis on June 29,1930, the first child of Dr. Noel and Frances (Thomas) Moran. Pat’s early childhood was spent in Marion and Bloomington, In., moving to Versailles in 1948, meeting her soon to be husband, and graduating from Versailles High School, class of 1949. She was united in marriage to James W. Lemon on August 24,1949, making their home for many years in Friendship, Indiana, before moving to Batesville in 2008.


Pat will be missed by her sister, Mary Evelyn (Leonard) Johnston of Ft Wayne, daughter Evelyn (Charles) Israel of Oldenburg, sons James Wm. (Nan) Lemon of Versailles, and Tracy (Shirley) Lemon, also of Versailles, as well as 7 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, and several loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim on January 6, 2019, her parents, and stepmother, Mary Moran.


During her working career, Pat was employed at the Indiana University bookstore, and was a Bank Teller, Proof Operator, and Bookkeeper. She also enjoyed working for many years at the target scoring desk during the NMLRA National competitions in Friendship. As a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church in Friendship, she was a Sunday School teacher and BYF leader, as well as pianist and choir director. She was a member of several organizations, including Tri Kappa, Eastern Star, Friendship Fire Department Auxiliary, Home Ec. Club, and Cross Plains PTO. In her younger years, she and Jim enjoyed going to local dances, bowling, and card club. Later in life, Pat was an avid reader, gardener, master crossword solver, and pioneering Atari gamer. She also enjoyed traveling and Sunday NFL football.


Services will be held at the convenience of the family. It is asked that memorials be made to the Friendship Fire Department, or the Ripley County Humane Society, in care of Stratton & Karsteter Funeral Home.
