Mr. Paul V. Mathews, age 87, of Cross Plains, Indiana entered this life on March 16, 1938 in Cross Plains, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Bryan and Mary Katherine Laswell Mathews. He was a lifelong resident of the Cross Plains community and was a 1956 graduate of the Cross Plains High School. He served in the United States Army from 1958 until being honorably discharged in 1964. On August 3, 1963 he was united in marriage to Clarica Hoskins in Cross Plains, Indiana. This happy union of nearly 62 years was blessed with a daughter, Paula Marie and three sons, Bryan, Max, and Michael Kyle. He worked for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana for thirty-one years before retiring. He was a member of the Cross Plains United Methodist Church and the Versailles Masonic Lodge No 7 F. & A.M. He loved spending time with his family. Paul died on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 7:23 a.m. at the University of Cincinnati Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

A LOVING FAMILY

Paul will be missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Clarica Hoskins Mathews of Cross Plains, Indiana; his daughter, Paula Marie Waller and her husband William of Cross Plains, Indiana; his sons, Bryan Mathews and his wife Dawna of Versailles, Indiana, Max Mathews and his wife Brenda of Dillsboro, Indiana, Michael Kyle Mathews and his wife Rachel of Batesville, Indiana; his grandchildren, Dustin, William Paul, Rodney, Shilo, Matthew, Mary Abigail, Dylan, Samantha, and Amanda; his 11-great grandchildren; his sister, Janice Cook of Cross Plains, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Bryan Mathews, his mother, Mary Katherine Laswell Mathews, his sister, Nancy Brown and his brothers, Clarence Mathews and Robert Keith Mathews.

PAUL’S WISHES

Paul chose cremation with no public service to be held. Interment will be in the Cross Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery in Cross Plains, Indiana.
