Rev. Carl David Gilmore

Rev. Carl David “C.D.” Gilmore, 83, of Anderson, Indiana, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on the evening of Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Bethany Pointe Health Campus in Anderson.

He was born on September 17, 1940 in Williamson, West Virginia, a son of the late Paul Barnabas and Euda Madeline (Simpson) Gilmore.

C.D. was a 1958 graduate of Williamson High School in West Virginia. He attended Frankfort Pilgrim College, in Frankfort, Indiana, where he met the love of his life, Lois Zeits, whom he married on August 3, 1963. Together they served in ministry for 60 years pastoring churches in Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio for The Pilgrim Holiness Church, The Wesleyan Church and The Church of the Nazarene. He had a great love for people and he and his wife entertained many over the years in their home. C.D. also worked for HP Products in Indianapolis for 25 years.

Rev. Gilmore was an avid reader and his pride and joy was his library which contained over 4,000 books. He encouraged children to read, telling them, “If you can read, you can be anything.” His other passion was his garden, and he was very particular about his lawn. Most of all, C.D. loved his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately called him “Pappy.”

Those left to cherish Carl’s memory include his loving wife of 60 years, Lois Gilmore; three sons, David Gilmore of Indianapolis, Darren (Tanya) Gilmore of Mitchell, and Paul (Allison) Gilmore of Anderson; a daughter, Shannon (Mark) Donahoo of Glendale, AZ, 11 grandchildren, Charles Gilmore, Matthew Gilmore, Mackenzie Gilmore, and Seth Gilmore, Krystan (Jereb) Hillenburg, Cassandra Gilmore, Nick Gilmore, Grace Gilmore, Josiah Gilmore, Laura (Matt) Jarvis, Brandon (Amy) Donahoo; six great-grandchildren and one great-grandson due soon; two sisters, Marvena Helms of Arlington, TX and Andra Horne of Kokomo, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, C.D. was preceded in death by four grandchildren and a brother, Paul Edward (Frances) Gilmore.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Anderson First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Tim Wiford officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, May 6, 2024 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.

Friends may call from 5:00 – 8:00 pm Friday at the church.
