Richard W. “Dick” Shadday, 72, of Rexville passed away Monday, October 24, 2022 at his home. He was born at the Whitlatch Clinic in Milan on December 7, 1949, the son of Kenneth and Martha Sandafar Shadday. He was married to Barbara Cole on June 22, 1991 and she survives. Other survivors include two sons Jeremy (Tracy) Shadday of Versailles and Dwayne (Holly) Roth of Milan; two daughters Becky (Mike) Lee of Hamilton, Ohio and Debbie (Doug) Trabel of Brookville; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dennis. Mr. Shadday was a 1967 graduate of South Ripley High School. A month after graduation, Dick enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served until he was honorably discharged on July 13, 1971, having served a tour of duty in Vietnam. For service to his country he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and the Good Conduct Medal. In civilian life Dick became a truck driver for 35 years with his retiring job being with Baylor Trucking in Milan. He enjoyed being on his farm and coin collecting. Dick was a member of the New Marion Baptist Church, Versailles American Legion, and the Versailles Masonic Lodge.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 1 at 11am at the New Marion Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Carter officiating. Burial will be in the New Marion Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be on Monday from 5pm to 7pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Tuesday at the church. The Versailles Masonic Lodge will conduct services at the funeral home Monday at 7pm. Memorials may be given to the New Marion Baptist Church or cemetery in care of the funeral home.
