Suscellia Bowling

Suscellia Bowling, 91, of Holton passed away at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, February 15, 2024 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born at Oneida in Clay County, Kentucky on February 22, 1931, the daughter of Wood and Esther Sizemore Baker. She was married to William Bowling and he preceded her in death on September 11, 2020.

Survivors include one daughter Carla Poynter of Holton; two sons William R. Bowling of Holton and Michael (Erin) Bowling of Dayton, Ohio; 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; one brother Jimmy Adkins of Versailles. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert Baker, and her sister Josephine Risk. Before settling back in Ripley County, Bill and Suscellia had lived in Dayton, Ohio and Indianapolis.

She worked as a union steward for True Photo in Dayton and also was the bookkeeper for Bill while he operated his diesel mechanic shop. Suscellia’s hobbies included crafting and collecting iron skillets, a collection that had grown to 75, but her best time was with her family. She was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.

Suscellia’s wishes were to be cremated and the family will hold a celebration of life at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Manderley Health Care Activities Fund or the Holton Masonic Lodge in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home.
