Virginia M. Leach, 84, of North Vernon, formerly of Versailles passed away at 9:50 a.m., Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in North Vernon. She was born at Hazard in Perry County, Kentucky on March 20, 1939, the daughter of Ned and Geneva Stacy Grigsby. She was married to Arthur “Glen” Leach on August 9, 1958 and he preceded her in death on October 3, 1976.

Survivors include two sons Glen (Monica) Leach of Batesville and Doug (Connie) Leach of Cedar Point, Illinois; three daughters Nila (Rick) Miller of Austin, Ila Clemens of North Vernon, and Kim (Dennis) Scott of Benham; 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; three brothers Ned Grigsby, Jr. of Michigan, Keith Grigsby of Missouri, and Jerry Grigsby of Versailles; three sisters Launa Mae Cox of Madison, Connie Poer of Nebraska (IN), and Diana Ray Camera of Massachusetts. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 6 brothers, and 5 sisters.

Mrs. Leach was a 1957 graduate of Cross Plains High School. While working as a nursing assistant to pay her way through school, she graduated from the Prosser School of Nursing in New Albany. Virginia spent 45 years as an LPN, working at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison and also for Res-Care. She was also a former employee of The Plaza Shop in Madison. Virginia enjoyed collecting hummingbird wind chimes and yard ornaments, tending to her plants and flowers, baking, especially known for her lemon cake, and spoiling her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, September 21 at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Tim Heim of the Shelby Christian Church officiating. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Memorials may be given to the West Fork Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
