Walter C. Peace

Walter C. Peace, 82, of Columbus, passed from this life at 9:48 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2025 at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Walter was born July 28, 1942, in Garrard County, Kentucky, the son of Joseph William and Mabel Vesta Hatfield Peace. On June 27, 1970, he married Georgiann Russell.
Mr. Peace worked for Cummins Engine Company for 30 years as a skilled tradesman in machine repair before retiring. Soon after, he went back to work, this time at the Jennings County Jail. He enjoyed watching western movies in his spare time. Walter found it relaxing to go horseback riding or fishing. Collecting John Wayne memorabilia was a hobby Walter took pride in. He will be deeply missed by those that know and love him.
Survivors include his wife, Georgiann; sons, Jim (Beth) Peace of Commiskey, William (Stephanie) Peace of Clarksville; daughter, Kim Peace of Columbus; sixteen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; sisters, Judy Kappes of Holten, Vickie (Charlie) Swinney of Osgood; brother, Wayne Peace; brother-in-law, Larry Winters, both also of Osgood; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Chris W. Peace, Terry J. Peace and sister, Carol Winters.
The funeral service was conducted at 12:00 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with Pastor Jim Pursley officiating. Visitation was from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial took place at Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
