Milan High School senior Ben Riehle will go down as one of the most decorated high school runners in Ripley County history but his running career is far from over as Riehle is now ready to take his talents to the collegiate level.
Riehle inked his National Letter of Intent to Marian University last week at the high school. He is set to join the university’s cross country and track and field programs.
What a high school career it has been from Riehle who is now currently playing basketball this winter season at Milan. The Indian star spent the fall qualifying for his first IHSAA Cross Country State Finals appearance while also earning his second-straight county and sectional individual championships. For his career, he was a three-time Ohio River Valley Conference champion, four-time regional qualifier and three-time semi-state qualifier while also earning All-Conference for four seasons.
The Team MVP in cross country for the past two years, his accomplishments in cross country are only outdid by his accolades when it comes to track and field in the spring.
Riehle is a two-time state qualifier in the 400 dash and has been Milan’s Most Valuable Runner for the past three years. He is a four-time regional qualifier, two-time sectional champion and a regional champion as a sophomore in the 400. He currently holds the school record in the 400, a mark that he set a year ago as a junior.
His talents will most certainly be welcome by a pair of Marian programs that are well-known for their running abilities and success at the NAIA level. Riehle’s brother, Matthew, currently is a senior for the Knights where he has earned Crossroads League and All-American honors as part of the track and field program.
Riehle still has a spring season of running left in him at the high school level that will once again see him as a state championship contender.
