Switzerland County hung around for much of the first half but Milan’s offense continued to pile up points and the defense pitched a second half shutout as the Indians put up a 41-14 win over the Pacers in Vevay.
The loss knocks Switzerland County (3-1) out of the unbeaten ranks while the victory for the Class A No. 11 Indians snaps a two-game losing streak.
Switzerland County certainly competed and proved to be a nuisance early, trailing just 14-7 at the end of the first quarter but Milan put together enough to get out to a two-possession lead by halftime, scoring twice in the second quarter for a 26-14 advantage. The rest of the night belonged to the Indians who scored 15 unanswered points in the final two quarters to push away and stay undefeated against the Pacers in the overall series between the two teams.
It was the ground game that ultimately got Milan’s offense going, totaling 212 yards for the night. Quarterback Wyatt Marsh ran in for three touchdowns on six carries and 23 yards and John McKeown put up a score on eight carries and 98 yards. Austin Green led all rushers in terms of yardage, totaling 103 yards on 14 carries. Five other players had at least one carry for the black and gold.
Marsh struggled passing with a couple of interceptions but was still 6-of-10 through the air with 119 yards which included a touchdown pass to Micah Norman. Norman led with two catches while Dylan Offill, Grant Langferman, Cameron Gilb and McKeown each had a catch. Offill had a team-high 49 receiving yards.
Caydin Davidson returned a Switzerland County kickoff for 68 yards and a touchdown. Dylan Hon was 1-of-3 on extra points and Offill put up 207 yards on seven kickoffs. Green paced the defense with a sack.
