Versailles man says he’s not guilty of charges

Rickie Fields, 61, of Versailles, was arrested last week on January 24 on Child Molest, a Level 4 Felony. The charge stems from alleged activity that took place within the last six years. He has had an initial hearing with bond set.
The alleged victim indicated to school officials that she had possibly been sexually abused. According to protocol, the school notified the Indiana Department of Child Services, who in turn notified the Indiana State Police.
ISP Officer Brent Miller was at the forensic interview (in a separate room), where he heard the girl say the sexual abuse had been going on since she was nine-years-old until she was about 13 years of age. She is now 15. The victim said Fields was a friend of the family putting him at their house and the kids sometimes at his place. She said sometimes Fields babysat for her and her siblings. She explicitly described different incidences where he had attempted and succeeded in touching her inappropriately, among other sexual acts toward her.
When ISP Trooper Miller talked with Fields, the suspect told him he had been accused of touching another victim and thought that was what the police were going to question him about. He couldn’t remember if the girl in question had ever spent the night at his house as she described but denied touching her inappropriately. He also noted that he hadn’t seen the victim in over a year.
Fields agreed to a recorded statement but asked the officer to do most of the talking as he (Fields) has a hard time talking (disability). The interview with Fields took place on September 18, 2024.
