Milan girls win big over JCD

A one-hitter inside the circle by a freshman starting pitcher and 23 hits at the plate propelled Milan softball to an overwhelming 19-0 win at home over Jac-Cen-Del on Monday night in an Ohio River Valley Conference game.
Milan has won six of its last eight games while Jac-Cen-Del is still in search of its first victory of the season.
A five-inning game ended by the mercy rule saw Milan go off for seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and then pile on 10 runs over the next two frames. The scoring surge ended with two runs in the bottom of the fourth before pitching put down Jac-Cen-Del in the top of the fifth to end the evening.
Mikaela Fasbinder had the only hit for Jac-Cen-Del as Milan freshman Kayleigh McIntosh delivered a complete game one-hit shutout. McIntosh surrendered just one walk and struck out 10, throwing only 62 pitches.
Aiding McIntosh majorly was the Milan offense which found every gap around the fifield. That included a pair of home runs by Kynadee Bode, using the dingers to drive in three runs. She also scored on three occasions. Mallory Eaglin was 3-for-3 with a double, home run, two RBI and a run scored and freshman Brooklyn Smith put together a 3-for-4 day with a double, four RBI and a run scored.
McIntosh, Ashlynn Ball, Jillianne Herd, Nevaeh Carpenter, Brooklyn Bledsoe and Katelin Murray each had two hits. Ball and Murray posted two RBI apiece while Carpenter and Bledsoe each had one and scored two runs apiece. Emma Voss hit a double, drove in a run and scored a run. Caroline McMillan doubled and drove in a run and Kaylee Peterson was 1-for-1 with two runs.
Voss and Carpenter each stole a team-high two bases.
Cheyenne Cullen took the pitching loss for Jac-Cen-Del. She allowed 17 runs -15 earned- on 19 hits with two walks.
Milan (12-6, 2-1 ORVC) hosted Southwestern (Hanover) on Wednesday in conference action.
