Milan’s Cayden Davidson looks to avoid a tag by South Ripley catcher Ethan Schmaltz. Davidson scored three runs and had three hits in an Indian win over the Raiders.
Milan baseball grabbed a lead in the first inning and never looked back on Monday night, defeating Ohio River Valley Conference rival South Ripley by an 11-2 final score at Forest G. Waters Field.
It was the third win in five games for the Indians and a second-straight win inside conference play.
Milan led 2-1 after the first inning and the margin only increased. The black and gold scored eight more runs and led 10-1 before South Ripley was finally able to plate a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Raiders however watched the lead go back to nine runs in the top of the seventh as the Indians plated their final score.
A triple off the bat of Milan’s Noah Morgan highlighted a 2-for-4 day with three RBI and a run scored. Cayden Davidson had three hits and three runs while Brady Alcorn went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run. Cole Burton drove in two runs on a hit and Matthew Baylor had a single, RBI and run.
Grant Langferman added a hit and two RBI, John McKeown recorded a hit and scored twice and both Nick Voss and Dillan Engel scored a run apiece.
Ethan Schmaltz’s double and single combined with an RBI for South Ripley and Braxton Wilson drove in a run with two base hits. Gabe Stone and Trevor Castern each had a hit and scored and Mason McNew came across for a run.
Alcorn was the winning pitcher, giving the Indians six strong innings and allowing two earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and a walk. Brogan Buchanan took the loss for South Ripley, giving up eight runs -five earned- on nine hits through four innings. Buchanan struck out four against no walks.
