Lady Bulldogs open golf season

Batesville girls golf won the Union County Tournament on Tuesday and is ranked seventh in the preseason state rankings.
The 2025 high school girls golf season is underway in the state of Indiana and Batesville was very much a part of that early this week, competing in a pair of season-opening matches on Monday and Tuesday.
Batesville enters the season ranked seventh in the state poll. The Lady Bulldogs are a heavy favorite locally and are top contenders in both the county and Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference.
Monday’s opener saw Batesville place third in the Bloomington South Invitational at Stone Crest Golf Course. Competing against several state-ranked teams, the Lady Bulldogs put together an 18-hole team score of 309. No. 4 Franklin Community won the event with a 301 and runner-up was No. 17 Floyd Central at 305. No. 8 Center Grove and No. 14 Castle rounded out the top five with scores of 311 and 337 respectively.
14 total teams competed in the invitational.
It was quite the start for Batesville’s Zoey Ahern who finished third overall and stood out with an even-par score of 71. Teammate Ava South followed with a 73 and freshman Stella Maple sat at 76. Alexis Gallagher rounded out Lady Bulldog scoring with an 89 and Adelyn Koehne shot a 97 in a non-scoring round.
Tuesday saw Batesville’s overall victory of the season, winning the Union County Tournament at the Liberty Country Club. The Lady Bulldogs blew away the competition, winning with an 18-hole score of 314 and Richmond was a distant runner-up at 348. The host Lady Patriots sat third with a 383, East Central was fourth at 392 and Franklin County rounded out the top five with a 396.
Connersville, Northeastern and Rushville rounded out the field. East Central’s Rowan Pies, a defending state finalist, earned individual medalist honors with a four-under 66.
South tied her 18-hole career-low score with a three-under 67 which gave her a runner-up nod to Pies. Ahern turned in an 80 and that was followed by Gallagher and Maple with scores of 83 and 84 respectively. Saner shot a 94 in a non-scoring round.
Batesville is back in action on Saturday afternoon, competing in the New Albany Invitational at the Valley View Golf Course.
