In the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 17 (2:25 am), the Batesville Fire Department was dispatched to the residence of Sandy Foster at 307 South Street, Batesville. While neighbors next door noticed flames coming from the home, they went to help as two Batesville Police officers were patrolling the area and called it in. Everyone assisted in getting Foster out of the home safely.
The fire started in the garage area, leaving Foster’s vehicle a total loss and engulfed the home in flames. The residence next to Foster’s is owned by Corey Williams. The Osgood Journal spoke with Williams, who stated that his home had significant damage to the siding and he was waiting on an insurance adjuster to check out any further structural damages from the fire. His vehicle and his tenant’s vehicle, Paula Behlmer, suffered damage as well. Everyone is okay and glad to have the support of the community. Batesville Fire Dept. was assisted by Oldenburg Fire Dept. and Morris Fire Dept. The Batesville Methodist Church opened their doors for convenience and comfort for those who were victims of the fire and surrounding neighbors that were evacuated from their homes.
At the time of press, Batesville Fire Department and Indiana State Fire Marshal were still investigating the cause of the fire.
