Shiners slide past Jac-Cen-Del girls

Jac-Cen-Del volleyball ends the night on the winning side as part of an opening round sectional victory last week. The Lady Eagles fell on Saturday in the semifinal round against eventual runner-up Rising Sun.
Jac-Cen-Del volleyball did its best to mount a comeback on Saturday but Rising Sun fired right back after an early lead and beat the Lady Eagles 3-1 in the semifinal round of the Class A Sectional 60 Volleyball Tournament.
Rising Sun (16-17) went on to fall 3-0 to No. 1 ranked Trinity Lutheran in the championship match on Saturday night.
The Lady Shiners opened with set wins of 27-25 and 25-15 but that’s when Jac-Cen-Del punched back in set three, keeping the contest alive with a 25-19 victory. Unfortunately, momentum did not last long as Rising Sun regained control quickly and took the fourth set by a 25-17 final.
Jaylyn Peelman and Ryan Works did much of the damage for Rising Sun with 12 kills and 11 kills respectively. Peyton Merican served four aces in the win.
Taylor Swinney’s eight kills for the Lady Eagles was added onto by six kills apiece from Lanie Narwold, Brynlie Simon, Kate Ohlmansiek and Mikaela Fasbinder. Brynlie Simon tallied seven blocks, Molli Weber finished with 16 digs and Brooklyn Simon posted a team-high 31 assists.
Jac-Cen-Del wraps up the fall with a 14-12 overall record which is a six-win improvement from a season ago.
