Drive-In sells, but will remain
Sandy Pickett holds up a sold sign at Kelley’s Bel-Air Drive-In after it sold recently. She noted the new owners are keeping it a Drive-In as it celebrates 75 years in business.
Printed in the April 13, 1950 Versailles Republican:
“Russell Kelley, well known Delaware merchant , announced Monday that he will start construction on a Drive-In Theater on Road 29 one and one half miles west of Versailles and three and a half miles south of Osgood within a few days. The new Drive In is to be erected on a ten-acre tract of land purchased from Purdum and Purdum Real Estate. The south boundary of the land is the old Versailles and Dabney Road. Mr. Kelley says the theatre will be 300 car capacity to start with, but if business warrants, the capacity can be increased as he will have plenty of room for expansion. Individual car speakers will be installed and the screen tower will be 48x 36x 48. There will be a concession stand and later a playground will be developed. Engineers from the theater equipment company were here Saturday looking over the grounds and planning the layout. Kelly hopes to get actual construction under way by the last of next week. Last year Kelley operated four small drive-ins in southeastern Indiana.”
Recently Sandy Pickett of Meisberger Real Estate, was happy to say the Drive-In will remain just that. She also says to watch their company to see what else they have making news!
