Offense propels Raiders to three-game win streak

South Ripley’s Mason Bascom looks to dribble past Oldenburg’s Connor Holder in Friday night boys basketball action. The Raiders beat the Twisters with Bascom putting up 10 points in the win.
Class 2A No. 14 South Ripley boys basketball saw its offense sizzle all weekend long and the Raiders were dominant in a pair of road victories on Friday and Saturday night, sending their win streak to three games.
The Raiders were a 76-58 winner at Oldenburg Academy on Friday and followed it up with an 83-43 drubbing of Switzerland County on Saturday in a game that counted towards the Ohio River Valley Conference standings.
Oldenburg did its best to play even with the Raiders in the final three quarters of Friday’s contest but South Ripley’s five 3-pointers and 25-12 assault in the opening frame was enough to pack an early haymaker. South Ripley extended the lead to 42-26 by halftime and did enough in the second half to inch out the margin.
South Ripley canned 11 3-pointers to pace those 76 points put up. Dylan Jessee led all scorers with 17 points which included five 3-pointers and Eli Gilpin scored 10 of his 15 points in the first half. Landon Werner stepped up with 14 points and both Mason Bascom and Drew Volz totaled 10 points.
Oldenburg’s Jack Freeland scored 15 points and that was followed by Adam Weber and Matthew Belt with 12 points apiece. The Twisters (5-7) saw their losing skid reach three games one day later, falling 66-35 to Morristown in a game played at the Hoosier Gym in Knightstown.
South Ripley was never threatened at Switzerland County on Saturday and used back-to-back runs of 21-6 and 26-13 in the first half to put the game out of reach early. The Raiders totaled another 10 3-pointers for the weekend and put 10 players in the score column.
Gilpin hit five 3-pointers en route to leading all scorers with 19 points and Volz added 15 points with 13 points coming in the first half. Werner and Jessee rounded out double figure scorers with 13 points and 11 points respectively.
Switzerland County (1-13, 0-2 ORVC) was led by Corbin Craig with nine points.
South Ripley (11-4, 2-0 ORVC) hosts Milan on Friday night in what will be a crucial conference rivalry matchup and a rematch of the Ripley County Tournament opening round won narrowly by the Raiders.
