Behavior & Digital Threat program in place at JCD
At the March regular meeting of the Jac-Cen-Del School Board of Trustees the Board was asked to consider a Behavioral and Digital Threat Assessment process. This would be in accordance with IC 10-21-1-10. It requires schools to establish a multidisciplinary threat assessment team as part of their school safety plan. This process would provide a structured way to identify, assess, and respond to concerning behaviors or digital threats that may indicate a risk to a student or the school community. It was noted that this reflects the corporation’s commitment to supporting students through difficult circumstances by connecting them with appropriate resources, interventions, and guidance before situations escalate.
A teacher attending the meeting noted she was glad to hear about the Behavioral and Digital Threat Assessment process that is being implemented. She said she feels JCD has some great teachers and Instructional Aids.
Also presented by Dr. Matt Maple, high school principal, was the request for the Board to pass a Resolution in Support of Military Families to recognize and honor the service and sacrifices made by military members and their families. This resolution reflects the district’s commitment to creating a supportive environment for students whose families serve in the military. It is also an important step as the district pursues designation as an Indiana Department of Education Purple Star School, which recognizes schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to support military-connected students.
The Board approved the Resolution in Support of Military Families and the Behavioral and Digital Threat Assessment process unanimously.
In other business the Board approved the Volleyball, Purdue University skills clinic overnight stay on May 31 and June 1.
They approved the resignation of Brian Sevier as High School Assistant Varsity Soccer Coach.
Under the Superintendent’s Report, it was noted that JCD has 12 applicants for the elementary principal position. They plan to start interviews after spring break with a committee of administrators, teachers and board members. He also noted that JCD’s band will be marching in Cincinnati Reds Opening Day. Supt. Sam Melton wished everyone an enjoyable and much needed spring break.
The next regular meeting of the JCD Board will be April 20 at 6:00 p.m. at the High School Eagle Room.
Board members present at the March meeting were James Gayheart, Michael Davis, Tiffany Foster, Daniel Horn, and Debra Roberts.
