Fox home runs lift Batesville

Batesville junior Caitlin Fox has clubbed three home runs in the first two games of the season which includes two grand slams. Fox hit a pair of homers in Tuesday’s win against Union County.
Caitlin Fox continued her power trend in game two of the season on Tuesday night and her two home runs propelled Batesville softball to a 9-3 victory over Union County at home.
The home opener for the Lady Bulldogs was their second-straight victory to start the season. Batesville trailed 1-0 early but emerged for eight runs between the second and fourth innings to grab the lead for good.
Batesville led 8-3 after the surge and added its final run in the bottom of the sixth. Of the nine runs tallied by the blue and white, five of those runs were driven in thanks to Fox’s two blasts. Overall the junior went 3-for-4 and added a double and three runs scored. In just two games, Fox has already collected three home runs, 11 RBI and a .667 batting average.
Cora Roth added three hits, an RBI and run scored and Molly Abel went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Payton Yorn drove in a run on a single and Lily Lang went 1-for-3, hitting a double and scoring a run.
Kaiyd Burroughs had two of Union County’s hits and drove in a run.
Libby Stephens earned her first win of the season inside the circle for the Lady Bulldogs. Stephens allowed three earned runs on five hits over three and two-thirds innings with five strikeouts and two walks. Grace Copley pitched in relief, throwing three and one-thirds innings and striking out six with two walks. She allowed no runs or no hits.
Batesville (2-0) is scheduled to visit Jennings County on Saturday morning.
