Mary Mae (Stephenson) Latimer
Mary Mae (Stephenson) Latimer, 97, passed away in the early hours of Saturday, April 18th, 2026 in New Albany, Indiana. Mary was born on April 3, 1929 to Ethel (EG) and Rozella Stephenson in Grant County, Kentucky and graduated from Dry Ridge High School in 1947. After marrying Leith Latimer in 1948, they moved to North Vernon, Indiana and later to Versailles, Indiana, where they lived for more than thirty years. Their retirement years were spent enjoying family in New Albany, Indiana and Corydon, Indiana.
Mary was always very active in her church, holding many positions and offices (secretary, treasurer, choir member, ladies’ circle leader, and more). She was an active member of Homemakers, Tri Kappa, Lamplighters Home Economics Club, American Cancer Society, and Precept Bible Study. Mary loved needlework of all kinds, including knitting, quilting, crocheting, and sewing.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by; three brothers, Bob, Paul, and Harry “Pete” Stephenson; husband, Leith Latimer; and daughter-in-law, Marcia Latimer.
Mary is survived by; son, Dr. Steven Latimer; three grandchildren, Amanda Dreher (Terry), Abbie Lynn Abbott (Garry), and Dr. Matthew Latimer (Jessica); nine great-grandchildren, Anabelle and Evelyn Dreher, Caleb, Eden, and Josely Abbott, Harper and Connor Latimer, and Camden and Beckett Neumann.
Visitation will be held at the Oak Street Chapel of the Naville & Seabrook Funeral Homes (1846 E. Oak Street, New Albany, IN 47150) on Thursday, April 23rd from 4 PM – 8 PM. Funeral Service will be on Friday, April 24th at the Oak Street Chapel at 1 PM, with private entombment at Graceland Memorial Park to follow.
